Stereo Martian Man
- This is the first track of our upcoming album Game of Hearts.
- The song (like many of our songs) was created pretty spontaneously in a Jam session in Thee Room II.
- "I remember... searching through my effects looking for the most crazy sounding patch. Then I came to one that as soon as I came to it, it started feeding back like crazy but since it had a phaser on it, it sounded space-like. So I was like 'cool... I wonder what would happen if I whistled into the pick-ups?' (since I wonder about this kind of stuff)" - Jon Brown
- Chris was running the mandolin through a Line6 PODXT Live with stereo delay and into a Line6 Flextone III with Ping-Pong Delay with offsetting feedbacks.
- Many of the ambient noises in the song were created by blowing across the strings of JB's ES-137, and whistling into the sound holes. The patch is built with a phaser, pitch shifting, and bell like EQ.
- We love naming instrumental tracks. It's a chance to be creative, but also try to capture the feel of a song which has no limitations of lyrics. We were a little stumped with this track title so as Chris was saving the project file he said "Without thinking too much just say the first word that comes to mind when thinking about this track". Sam - "Stereo", JB - "Martian", Chris - "Man" (Taylor was unfortunately not at the jam session)
- The track's intro contains many "hidden" messages inspired by some of our biggest band influences. Going into too much detail here would cause them to be not so hidden and defeat the purpose... so I'll leave it at that.
- The repeated quote "Number 3" at the beginning of the track has 3 different purposes for being in the song (from the song-writer's perspective). None of which we will explain here :)
- The track was originally intended to be only 2 minutes long, ending where it stops building, but while we were recording a few improvisational moments came out.
